Nana Osei Twum Barima is a Ghanaian musician, singer, percussionist and dancer based in Ghent, Belgium. Raised in a family of musicians, Nana carries forward a powerful legacy through the seperewa — an ancient Ghanaian harp-lute that has become his musical signature. With a background in traditional music and dance from the University of Winneba, he blends rhythm, melody and movement into immersive live experiences rooted in Ghana’s musical heritage.
Nana performs both solo and with his band, weaving influences from Kundum, Akom, Palmwine and Nwomkro into a sound that is both timeless and deeply personal. He has collaborated with Dirk Brossé, Lara Rosseel, Roland Van Campenhout and Kyekyeku.
In 2025, Vincent Brijs and Seba Colson were invited to join the band. They are currently working on an album to be released in 2027.
With this band, Seba Colson and Vincent Brijs travelled to Ethiopia in 2025 and 2026 to perform at the International Jazz Day Festival in Addis Ababa. In 2025 they were lucky enough to perform alongside Mulatu Astatke.
Founded in Addis Ababa in 2016 by Elias Mulugeta, Jazbyssinia is a pioneering Ethio-jazz band dedicated to preserving the legacy of Ethiopian jazz while introducing a bold new soundscape. Deeply rooted in the cultural rhythms of Abyssinia, the band blends traditional Ethiopian melodies with modern jazz improvisation.
Jazbyssinia has grown into one of Ethiopia’s most influential jazz ensembles and a global ambassador for Ethio-jazz. Its 2021 debut album Greetings received widespread praise, and the band continues to expand through collaborations with European musicians.
Following the example of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra at the Village Vanguard or the Paradox Jazz Orchestra in Tilburg, the Hnita Big Band uses the Hnita Jazz Club as its home base. The band’s first concert took place on 11 February 2024. Since then they have been performing at Hnita Jazz Club every second Sunday of the month, at 5pm.
Led by Dree Peremans (Rebirth::Collective, VRT Bigband, BoomBigBand), the ensemble brings together established names from the Belgian jazz scene with up-and-coming young talent. They rehearse repertoire at the club, which they then immediately present to the audience.
